Our carvers can handle almost every project imaginable. We do memorials, plaques, sculptures, coats-of-arms as well as commercial work such as architectural carving and restoration.

Our resident carver

All of Hutton Stone Companies Carving and Lettering work is overseen by our Freelance “Artist in Residence” Michelle de Bruin. She can generally be found working on some carved detail, maybe on a bespoke Headstone, a Crest of Arms, a Capital or Name/Date Stone – or perhaps she will be carving a life size Wolf, an Octopus or a Bats Ear for her beloved “Broom Cupboard” Collection! Either way, she can always be found producing some truly exquisite work and we are extremely proud to have found a point where the heavy side of Quarrying and Stone Production can sit happily together with creative artistry here at Hutton Stone.

You can visit Michelle’s website here or take a peek at her Twitter page here

She is joined by Josephine Crossland, traditional skills apprentice and Historic Scotland bursary holder.

Signs, plaques & other lettering

Memorial plaques and signs can be commissioned to commemorate a range of occasions, to mark an opening, a place, a historic event, a faded inscription can be brought back to life. Our lettering is uniquely designed with the client’s needs in mind, and can be as simple or elaborate as required.

Memorials

All our headstones are bespoke designed and carved by hand. We will work closely with you to understand your wishes and involve you in all stages of the work.
